Approach
My therapy approach is integrative. This means that I am trained in several evidence-based modalities, which I will use to address your individualized needs. As we learn in Psych 101, “Everyone is like everyone, everyone is like some others, and everyone is like no one”. In other words, your unique needs will help guide us in determining what modalities are best for you. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy.
But generally speaking, I help my clients to challenge their ineffective thoughts, check the facts, and replace those thoughts with more reality-based thoughts. I also will help you learn how to change your behaviors so that these new thoughts can reach your heart, and not just float around in your mind. I have also found that spending time developing self-awareness and self-compassion are essential to effective treatment. While I specialize in DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), I am well-versed in CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Acceptance Therapy, and Mindfulness Therapy.
We will be working collaboratively to determine your treatment goals, and how we will achieve them. You are always encouraged to ask questions about what we are doing, and let me know if you are uncomfortable or would like to change strategies.
